OMAHEKE regional police commander commissioner Andreas Haingura on Friday confirmed the death of Marenga Ende (39) and Herolt Ngaujake (50).
The two drowned at the Tilda Viljoen Dam at Gobabis last Sunday.
“It is alleged that a group of colleagues were gathering for a year-end party at the dam and decided to cross the dam by swimming,” Haingura said.
He said they were guided by fisherman.
Upon the duo’s return, Ende slipped and fell into a hole under the water.
Ngaujake allegedly tried to save his colleague, but was also pulled in under the water.
Ende was pulled out of the water by her co-workers, who tried to resuscitate her while leaving Ngaujake in the water as he was in too deep, Haingura said.
Ende was then taken to hospital by her co-workers, where she died.
Ngaujake’s body was was later recovered by the police.
The victims’ next of kin have been informed of the incident, and police investigations continue.
