POLICE in the Omusati region have reported that a three-month-old baby girl was allegedly raped at Iishanapula village on Saturday.
Omusati region police crime investigations coordinator Malakia Simaho said the baby’s mother left her at home in the care of the suspect while she went to a nearby cuca shop.
“The minor was left in the care of the suspect, who also resides in the same house. The suspect, whose age has not yet been established, has been arrested and will appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court,” Simaho said.
Oshikoto pensioner burns to death
A WOMAN (102) allegedly burnt to death while sleeping at Engoyi village in Oshikoto region on Sunday morning at around 05h00.
“It is alleged that the elderly [woman] burnt to death after her bedding caught fire while she was sleeping. However, there were other people sleeping in other housing structures in the same compound. The cause of the fire is not known since the deceased did not smoke and had no candles in her room, said Oshikoto police regional commander commissioner Theopoline Kalompo- Nashikaku.
Two die in car accident as suspected fuel smuggler flees police
TWO people died in a car accident near Oshikango on Saturday morning while the driver was allegedly fleeing from the police.
The incident, reported by the police in the Ohangwena region, took place on the Oshikango-Edundja road.
The driver of the seven-seater, who was transporting two passengers and containers of ‘smuggled’ fuel, allegedly spotted a police vehicle and tried to speed off to avoid arrest.
“The driver lost control of the vehicle when he tried to flee upon seeing police ahead of him. He was driving at Oshikango, but suddenly detoured when he saw a police vehicle. One of his passengers died at the scene of the accident, while the other died on arrival at the Oshakati hospital,” said Ohangwena police crime investigations coordinator Zacharias Amakali.
Amakali said the driver, who only has a learner’s licence, attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was arrested and was set to appear in the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
