MOVE over, fashion industry giants, there’s a new player in town.
Swapo Party Youth League spokesperson Moses Shikerete has launched his own fashion brand, called ‘Gciriku Yetu Clothing’.
He says he created the brand to make people proud of their cultural heritage.
The brand is named after the vaGciriku people of the Kavango region and involves a blend of contemporary and traditional styles, he says.
Shikerete, who draws inspiration from Ralph Lauren’s timeless Polo clothing line, says he started his fashion journey in 2012, focusing on menswear.
However, due to popular demand, he now caters to women too, he says.
Despite the challenges of sourcing supplies and obtaining production assistance, the brand has been steadily gaining momentum on the local fashion scene, he says.
Shikerete’s long-term vision is to take the brand to the international stage and make it a household name.
He believes success is built on persistence and investing in one’s ideas, even before aiming for a profit.
‘Gciriku Yetu Clothing’ is a fresh, bold and exciting addition to Namibia’s fashion scene, Shikerete says.
