The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has announced that 1 360 short-term work visa applications have been issued to date through the e-Visa system that was introduced this year.
Margaret Kalo, the ministry’s spokesperson, said in addition to the issued short-term work visas, 900 passport applications have been received online as well.
The ministry introduced the online passport and work visa applications on 3 March.
“The public is encouraged to continue utilising the ministry’s online platform for these services as the procedure is faster and more convenient than applying in-person,” Kalo said.
She added that with the online application system, applicants can choose to submit their applications at their convenience.
“For passports, the applicant will choose the date and time for the appointment of biometric capturing, whereas for work visa all processes will be done online with a copy of the visa issued automatically to the applicant once it is approved via the applicant’s email address,” Kalo added.
According to her, the visa will be an e-visa, which will be valid to travel to Namibia.
“In addition, the e-services will always update the applicants of the status of their applications. All that is required is for the client to have access to internet connectivity,” Kalo said.
The online service is part of the ministry’s drive to transform the way it delivers services through digitisation, Kalo said.
The spokesperson further said clients can visit the e-services website on https://eservices.mhaiss.gov.na when they apply for new passports, or for the renewal of their passports or when they apply for work visas.
She said the system is designed to improve efficiency and convenience by providing a modern and secure service to clients.
“Furthermore, it makes life easier and more convenient for our clients across the country and even abroad,” she said.
During the launch of the e-system, home affairs minister Albert Kawana said the work visa is only valid for a maximum period of six months. Kawana, however, said the ministry would soon extend the work visa validity period.
The minister said the ministry is embracing technology as a catalyst and enabler to achieve global best practices, as well as the government reform initiative by embracing e-governance.
