THE Rani Group of Companies recently donated 120 pairs of shoes to Oshikunde Combined School in the Ohangwena region.
The shoes are worth N$14 000.
The school also received shoes from other donors, bringing the total number of donated pairs of shoes to more than 200.
Rani Group managing director Ali Dharani at the handover said his company decided to donate shoes to the school after seeing a picture of one of the school’s pupils with worn-out shoes.
“I saw this media clip of a child with worn-out shoes doing the rounds, and I decided I had to step in and do something. I made this donation without a personal agenda .
“I am a father and I know what it feels like to have children. I know their pain, and I know when they are happy ,” he said.
Dharani encouraged pupils to focus and be dedicated to their studies. He urged parents to ensure that their children get an education so that they can rise above their circumstances.
Dharani further pledged to supply the school with a 100 boxes of photocopy paper worth N$45 000.
School principal Hoster Simasiku expressed his gratitude over the country’s willingness to help the less privileged children at the school.
“We are really grateful to the media, which made this possible. The school is overwhelmed with gratitude. People from all corners of the country came through for these children, and I can tell you right now we are sitting with more than 200 pairs of school shoes from different people.
“Donations of school uniforms were also received,” he said.
