On Wednesday, tragedy struck at the Swakopmund Jetty when a 30-year-old man allegedly jumped into the ocean.
According to Sean Naude of the Namibia Marshall Rangers, they received a report of the incident and rushed to the scene.
Naude said he dived into the water and located Nelson’s body within three minutes. With the help of a local business owner, they tried to resuscitate the victim for 45 minutes.
“Sadly, it was too late, as he had swallowed too much water and died,” said Naude.
The police are investigating the incident to determine whether it was a suicide or an accident.
The Swakopmund Jetty is a known spot for desperate individuals to jump from in an attempt to end their lives, with some being found days later.
