A 25-YEAR-OLD man was allegedly shot and killed by the police at Mix settlement on Saturday evening.
According to the police report, the police were on evening patrol at Mix settlement in Windhoek on Saturday when they found people on the streets and bars. The officers were reportedly advising the people against contravening the Liquor Act when trouble began.
The deceased, who has been identified as Absalom Absalom, allegedly started fighting the police and during the scuffle he was struck by a bullet and he died on the spot.
“The deceased and three other boys were walking around with bottles of liquor when police on patrol approached them. The deceased attacked an officer with a stick, at which point a warning gunshot was fired in the air. The deceased ran off and picked up a stone, which he threw at the officer, and he was shot in the head at that point,” revealed Khomas police spokesperson Silas Shipandeni.
Shipandeni said a case of murder has been opened against the officer, however, he was not arrested as he was in the line of duty.
“The case will be forwarded to the prosecutor general,” Shipandeni said.
