The registration of Affirmative Repositioning (AR) as a political party is uncertain as it undergoes a review at an administrative level before the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) decides if it’s eligible.
Theo Mujoro, the ECN’s current head says they are currently processing AR’s application to ensure adherence to the Electoral Act’s Sections 135 and 136, which outline political party registration requisites.
“The application is currently being processed by the ECN to ascertain compliance with Sections 135 and 136 of the Electoral Act, No. 5 of 2014 that stipulates the requirements for the registration of political parties,” Mujoro said in a statement today.
This move follows nearly a decade since AR’s establishment as a pressure group, with its leaders previously disavowing political ambitions.
However, AR is now awaiting ECN approval to contest the forthcoming general elections and introduce a presidential candidate, notably illustrated by founder Job Amupanda’s self-proclaimed candidacy.
